Research and Monitoring Program
CREST Research and Monitoring Program
The goal of the Research and Monitoring Program is to evaluate the effectiveness of restoration projects in the Columbia River estuary. To measure the effectiveness of these projects, CREST has developed effectiveness monitoring plans to collect physical, chemical and biological monitoring data at these project sites. The data collected helps to inform the restoration project managers and develop adaptive management strategies.
Linked to the Research and Monitoring Program is the Habitat Restoration Program that attempts to restore tidal wetland habitat to produce broader ecological benefits to the entire community of resident and anadromous fish, as well as wetland dependent wildlife. (Click here for more information on the CREST Habitat Restoration Program)
CREST is currently conducting physical, chemical and biological monitoring for the following restoration projects (see map):
- Lewis & Clark River/Fort Clatsop
- Grays River
- Gorley Springs
- Holbrook Slough
- Vera Slough
- Chinook River/Fort Columbia (proposed)
- Youngs River/Sharnelle Fee
