Wetlands Program
CREST Wetlands Program
As land use pressures grow on the coast, careful planning is required to ensure a balance between development needs and natural resource protection. The CREST Wetlands Program is centered around the provision of wetland planning services that guide local jurisdictions through state and federal regulatory laws. In addition, CREST is a resource (for member jurisdictions) for compensatory mitigation opportunities, on the ground project design, construction, and monitoring. The GIS capability at CREST also assists in providing on call wetland consulting services. CREST staff provides a combination of services that is uniquely qualified for on-call wetland services that include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Wetland Determination and Delineation (i.e. extent of wetland acreage)
- Wetland Functional Assessments (i.e. wetland importance to ecological function)
- Wetland Compensatory Mitigation (i.e. identifying adequate measures to offset ecological impact to wetland)
Examples of completed projects include:
- City of Astoria – Local Wetlands Inventory
- Port of Astoria – Airport Industrial Park Wetland Delineation
- Clatsop County – Youngs River Loop Road Wetland Determination (2004)
- Port of Astoria – Vera Slough Mitigation Project,
- City of Seaside – Local Wetlands Inventory
